Hi, I'm Zak! I have been working in the home care industry for over 10 years.
I have extensive experience in homecare, supported living, day centre, and youth clubs.
My first experience of care work was in 2010 at 15 years old, as work experience.
I remember it well.
I knew from this experience care work was the career path for me.
I would play games and assist with day to day activities in the care home. This turned into regular visits as a volunteer. As time went on my passion for care work and the love of the job grew.
In May 2015 along with a full-time job, I started part-time with a domiciliary care company in Kendal. Two months later this become my full-time job, visiting people in their own homes.
In Sep 2016 I changed my job to work with another care company this time in supported living.
I helped start up the new building along with a few colleagues.
In May 2017 I decided to move back to community support as I preferred this type of care work.
In July 2018 the company I worked for closed down the community care side of their company.
This is when I started Wood’s Homecare.
I started off with one lady in Kendal, this grew to three.
I have Level 2 NVQ and I’m currently working towards my Level 3 lead adult care worker. I am also trained in data protection (GDPR), concussion awareness, dyslexia, food hygiene and safety, equality and diversity, online safety training, autism, and epilepsy. On top of that, I obtained an enhanced DBS and first aid qualifications. I also carry a defibrillator and am fully trained in how to use it
